Attacks on THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT

The Center's comprehensive report on Endangered Species Act attacks underscores at least 281 direct attacks on the Act since 1996, with the majority of attacks occurring within the past five years. Since 2011, after the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling, there have been more than 211 direct attacks targeting specific species or seeking to dismantle the Act itself. The current 114th Congress has dramatically increased its efforts to take away protections for species, and has set a record-breaking 87 attacks in 2015. There have been 26 attacks since 2016 started.

New legislative attacks and developments will be updated on this page. *This page was last updated on May 24, 2016.
