Contaminated water. Greenhouse gas pollution. Dead wildlife. And grave threats to public health.
Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing — and the industrial development that comes with it — have left a grim trail of damage across America. This dangerous oil-and-gas drilling technique involves injecting millions of gallons of highly pressurized water, sand and toxic chemicals deep into the earth to break apart shale formations holding natural gas and oil.
With potentially the largest U.S. shale oil reserve in California’s Monterey Shale, fracking has become a major issue in the Golden State. But Californians still have time to safeguard our water, air, wildlife, climate and public health from this dangerous and poorly regulated form of oil and gas production. If you're a resident of California, the Center wants to work with you to ban fracking in your state.
We’ll help provide you with materials, speakers, strategies and support in all your anti-fracking activism. Interested? We hope so.
