February 1998 – The Center gave notice of intent to sue Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base if the Marines continued with base construction plans without formally consulting with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
June 1998 – The Center filed suit against four Southern California national forests for failing to protect 39 endangered species, including the Pacific pocket mouse.
August 1998 – The Center gave notice of intent to sue the Fish and Wildlife Service over the agency's failure to designate critical habitat for 38 species throughout California — including the Pacific pocket mouse.
September 18, 2000 – The Center, Endangered Habitats League, and the National Resources Defense Council petitioned the Service to map out and protect critical habitat areas for the endangered Pacific pocket mouse.
