To the editor:
Some in Congress are attempting to make sweeping policy decisions about the health of our planet by attaching attacks on the Clean Air Act to legislation to fund the government. Rather than simply ensuring the continued operation of our government, they want to include a big gift to polluters by gutting, weakening or delaying the Clean Air Act's ability to clean the air we need to breathe and have a healthy climate.
The Clean Air Act is this nation's single-most important existing law for reducing carbon dioxide pollution and avoiding the worst effects of the global climate disaster. Americans won't stand for pure and simple giveaways to the oil, gas and coal industries that ignore the many lives and dollars that the 40-year-old Clean Air Act has saved.
