Statement on Judiciary Committee Vote in Favor of Kavanaugh

WASHINGTON— Following today’s Senate Judiciary Committee vote in favor of Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court, Kierán Suckling, executive director at the Center for Biological Diversity, released the following statement:

“This is a dark day for America and especially for the millions of women and men who have been the victim of sexual assault and harassment. It’s a disgrace to see so many Republican men of the Senate Judiciary Committee brush aside these allegations to secure a right-wing majority on the Supreme Court. We’re hopeful the Senate will heed the call to delay the full vote so the FBI can investigate. It’s absolutely the right thing to do.

“Sadly this week has been another reminder who Trump and so many congressional Republicans stand with when it comes to powerful men and the brave women who speak out against them.

“If Kavanaugh is ultimately confirmed, history will remember it as the day when the Supreme Court tilted fatefully in favor of the rich and dominant. This vote makes it incumbent upon all of us to fight harder and speak louder for equality and justice for all, especially those who dare to challenge the most powerful among us.”

The Center for Biological Diversity is a national, nonprofit conservation organization with more than 1.6 million members and online activists dedicated to the protection of endangered species and wild places.
