Statement from Kierán Suckling, executive director, Center for Biological Diversity, on the outcome of the Kyle Rittenhouse trial:
“This appalling failure of our broken, racist criminal justice system is a tragedy for those who died at Rittenhouse’s hands. White privilege and systemic racism got Rittenhouse off the hook, just as they’ve helped the Kenosha police officer who shot Jacob Blake avoid accountability. We have to prevent this verdict from emboldening other violent right-wing extremists, but we also need to overhaul the legal system that protects vigilantes but not Black victims of police violence.”
