Everyaction, Every summer in Minnesota, thousands of turtles are taken from the state's waters by trappers. Many of them end up in overseas markets. Commercial trapping is devastating to turtle populations that are already suffering from many other threats — water pollution, habitat loss, car strikes and climate change. Studies have repeatedly shown that freshwater turtles cannot sustain any significant level of wild collection without population declines. We can't continue to drain the state of its precious wildlife just so a few trappers can pad their wallets. Take action: Tell your state legislators you support a ban on the trapping of Minnesota's turtles. |
