Everyaction, California's legislature will soon vote on one of the most consequential climate-justice bills the state has ever seen. The bill will protect millions of Californians from the harms of toxic oil drilling in neighborhoods, end fracking and other kinds of dangerous drilling, and help save our climate and ecosystems from further destruction. Big Oil is fighting tooth and nail to defeat this momentous bill. To get it signed into law, we all need to voice our support. Can you take a few seconds to urge your state senator to vote yes on Senate Bill 467? Nearly 7.5 million Californians — disproportionately Black, Indigenous and people of color — live within one mile of an oil or gas well. The bill will require drilling sites to be set back from homes, schools and hospitals by 2,500 feet to reduce health harms associated with fossil fuel pollution. Ending fracking will help protect wildlife and our climate — and send a signal that California is finally ready to phase out dirty, dangerous oil drilling through a just transition. |
