Senator's vendetta against desert park managers continues
Bills would harm desert park through road re-opening, re-introduction of feral horses

April 1, 2004

California Senator Bill Morrow continues to push 2 ill-conceived bills to override resource protection decisions by Anza Borrego State Park managers. Senate Bill 1338 would re-open a damaging road through a stream and riparian forest, and SB 1294 would re-introduce harmful feral horses. Both would occur in Coyote Canyon near the town of Borrego Springs.

Then-Assemblyman Morrow was cited by park rangers in the late 1990's for driving his state vehicle off-road past obvious closure signs during a protest against the Coyote Canyon road closure. "No one really doubts that Morrow's bills have little to do with legitimate lawmaking, and much to do with revenge against State Park managers," said Center spokesperson David Hogan.

The bills are now scheduled for hearing by the Senate Natural Resources and Wildlife Committee on Tuesday, April 13th, 9:30am, Room 112 of the Capitol.
