Steve Stockman: The Standard by Which All Opportunistic Idiocy Is Now Judged
By Julie Weiner

Scandals and gaffes involving Texas congressman Steve Stockman are, for us at VF.com’s political desk, satisfying and amazing in precisely two ways: one, because Steve Stockman is an endlessly quotable publicity-hungry maniac, so that’s fun; and two, we called it back in January—and again in February, when he brought self-described presidential-assassin-hopeful Ted Nugent to the State of the Union!—that Steve Stockman was definitely going to Become A Thing. So yes, Salon.com, to answer your question on Thursday about whether Stockman is“the new Michele Bachmann”yes. And iffeels so good.

What’s Stockman done now? Nothing even that crazy by Stockman standards, but the following tweet is getting a fair amount of attention amongst Stockman-averse demographics like “the rational”: “The best thing about the Earth is if you poke holes in it oil and gas come out.” False: the best thing about the Earth is its ability to support forms of life such as Texas congressman Steve Stockman. Shine on, you crazy diamond.
