Sizing Up Mr. Obama's Economic and Energy Plans

It is nearly certain that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) did not actually read the House-passed version of the "cap and trade" climate-change bill ["The 'Cap and Tax' Dead End," op-ed, July 14]. If she had managed to fit such a task into her busy media schedule, the coal and oil industries' victory would be obvious. Between the massive subsidies for carbon sequestration and the opportunity for spurious offsets that would prevent any real emissions reduction, the absurd debate over global warming's existence is revealed to be an ideological sideshow. This is why the House bill's loopholes must be closed in the Senate and the well-established protections of the Clean Air Act reinstated.
