ACTION TIMELINE

October 20, 2011 – The Center and allies urged wildlife officials in Georgia and Alabama to stop rattlesnake hunters from using poisons that harm gopher tortoises. 

March 28, 2013 – The Center and allies filed a formal notice of intent to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for handing over authority for development permits to Florida agencies, which could harm endangered species like the gopher tortoise.

December 7, 2016 – The EPA took much needed action to restrict the use of eight pesticides found to kill gopher tortoises and other borrowing animals.

December 20, 2016 – The Center and partners issued a notice of intent to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for violations of the Clean Water Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and Endangered Species Act in connection with approval of phosphate mining in Central Florida, which harms iconic Florida species like the gopher tortoise.

March 15, 2017 – The Center and partners filed a complaint against the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in connection with their authorization of phosphate mining in Central Florida.
