Action timelineSeptember 2009 – A study showed rattlesnake roundups to be depleting populations of eastern diamondbacks in the southeastern United States. January 28, 2010 – The Center sent a letter to Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue urging the state to outlaw rattlesnake roundups. August 22, 2011– The Center, snake expert Dr. Bruce Means, Protect All Living Species and One More Generation petitioned to protect the eastern diamondback under the Endangered Species Act. May 9, 2012 – In response to our petition, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced that the eastern diamondback rattlesnake might qualify for Endangered Species Act protection. |
