Action timeline

July 2, 2003 – Responding favorably to a National Trappers Association petition to remove the Mexican bobcat from the endangered species list, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service initiated a status review of the species as a first step toward delisting.

September 27, 2003 – The Center filed comments with the Service on the status review in opposition to delisting the species.

November 23, 2005 – Despite the absence of any biological justification for delisting the Mexican bobcat, the Service proposed to do so.

December 23, 2005 – The Center submitted comments opposing the Service’s proposal to remove the bobcat’s protections. Our comments were very likely the reason the agency did not continue with its plan to delist the species.
