Action timeline

May 5, 2000 – In response to the Center’s 1999 petition, the National Marine Fisheries Service issued a positive finding and proposed to list the white abalone as an endangered species. Protected status took effect the following year.

April 29, 1999 – The Center filed a citizen petition with the Fisheries Service to list the white abalone under the Endangered Species Act.
