Protest to Urge Senator Flake to Stop Attacking Wildlife, Public Lands

Citizens to Oppose Funding Trump's Border Wall, Efforts to Gut Environmental Laws

TUCSON, Ariz.— Constituents of Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and members of the Center for Biological Diversity will rally tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. outside the senator's Tucson office to demand that he stop attacking wildlife and public lands.

The protest comes as President Trump and congressional Republicans are exploiting the federal budgetary process to try to include additional funding for Trump's border wall and dangerous policy riders that would undermine the Endangered Species Act, public lands and other environmental laws on behalf of oil and development interests. Congress must pass the continuing budget resolution by April 28 to avoid a federal government shutdown.

Senator Flake earlier this year introduced legislation that would undercut the scientific standards used in the Endangered Species Act recovery of the Mexican gray wolf.
Flake has sponsored or cosponsored 17 anti-public lands bills since 2011. He is one of the top 15 members of Congress who is trying to seize, destroy, dismantle and privatize America's public lands according to the Center's recent report, Public Lands Enemies.

“Senator Flake is disturbingly determined to strip critical protections from our cherished public lands and threatened animals like jaguars and Mexican wolves,” said the Center's Ryan Beam. “We're urging the senator to fund the government without punishing imperiled wildlife and our public lands.”
