Sample LETTER TO THE EDITOR

To the editor:
In these troubled times, it’s important to remember that climate change is the biggest, most challenging problem that we can and must solve, for ourselves and our children.

We must pressure our leaders to require automakers to build much more efficient vehicles and set the highest possible mileage standards — standards that also apply to trucks and SUVs.

We also must transition from oil and coal as quickly as possible toward such clean, renewable energy sources as solar, wind and geothermal power. If we act now, we can head off the catastrophic changes in climate that will cause starvation and untold misery for humans and extinction for most of Earth’s species.

Scientists say we must begin now to reduce the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from the present level of 385 parts per million to around 350 ppm by midcentury.

But to do that, we have to get to work — now.
Sincerely,
